At Off the Rail Brewing Co., we love making craft beers almost as much as we enjoy drinking them.
My name is Steve, founder and brewer of Off the Rail. Ask anybody who knows me; craft beer has been a passion of mine for a long time. In the 80’s, trips to Europe and the US led me to discover a whole new world of micro-brews; traditional English Ales, German lagers and US IPA’s. This was the beginning of my love affair with craft beer.
My thirst for unique beer just grew from there. In the early ‘80s, my family opened a live music bar called The Railway Club where I introduced some of my favorite craft beers to customers. As craft beer became more popular in the 1990’s, the selection was expanded to support the growing local craft breweries. ‘The Rail’ as it came to be known, soon carried one of the largest selections of local craft draught beer in Vancouver.
Why We Brew
After the Railway Club was sold in 2008, I started an organic hop farm in Mission BC and sold the hops to local craft breweries. I eventually started brewing and experimented with my own beer recipes, using my own organic hops.
After years of perfecting my recipes, it was time to build my own microbrewery – Off the Rail Brewing Company – to share my enthusiasm for micro-brewed beer.
Off the Rail Brewing opened its doors in February of 2015 and today, I spend my days doing what I love. Our recipes emphasize mouth watering flavors and different beer styles. Each small batch builds upon our classic recipes; we then add playful twists with new varieties of hops and yeasts as they become available.
At Off the Rail, fellow brewers Mike and Kerry are committed to crafting a selection of high quality micro-brews to be enjoyed by anyone who is as passionate about craft beer as we are.
A special thanks to all the kind folks who went off the rail to help along the way and to Trigger, Mike and Mark for their continuous support and enthusiasm for what we do!
